August 3 - 8: 10am - 3pm in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Headed by singer-songwriter and teaching artist Ashley Virginia, What the Folk! Songwriter School is a FREE summer camp for middle and high school students, diving deep into the art of songwriting and music production. Students of all skill levels are welcome to apply. Selected students will be invited to participate in a songwriting workshop, record their original material, perform a showcase at a venue, AND perform during the North Carolina Folk Festival.

Through a mix of lectures, creative exercises, group co-writes, and one-on-one coaching, participants will explore melody, lyrics, rhythm, and harmony. We'll talk about how to turn feelings and ideas into powerful songs, and touch on the basics of music production so you can start recording your work. You’ll learn about your own creative process, build confidence, and connect with a community of fellow songwriters.

The workshop will run August 3 - 8: 10am - 3pm in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Students will perform in a showcase at the Back Table on August 8, 6:30pm - 9:30pm.

On Sunday, September 20th, students will perform during the North Carolina Folk Festival on the Flat Iron stage.

SPACE IS LIMITED!

Applications close on June 15th.

Selected students will be notified by June 30th.
